Commercial & Residential Ideas: Maximize Small Spaces with Window Film

When you’re deciding how to decorate a small space, you’ll consider what furniture will fit, the perfect paint color, décor, and how to arrange it all. Sometimes this area still won’t feel quite right and can bring on a design-induced headache. However, don’t give up trying to maximize small spaces and consider this unique tip – installing window film!

Window film is a practically undetectable film installed professionally on your windows to reduce glare, protect your items, deflect heat, increases privacy and security, and more. There’s no downside to window film in your home, commercial building, or vehicle.

Window Film for Design

Hanging curtains can actually clutter and darken a space, making window film the non-bulky option to any small space – allowing any area to breathe and maximize small spaces. Blinds, shades, and drapes do the same, muddling window space and blocking natural light, which can make a small room look so much bigger and brighter. Feeling like you’re in a cave can make a room feel congested and small. Lighten and brighten your space with unobstructed window space by using window film. Just like adding a mirror can make a room feel bigger, window film does the same, making a room feel bright, roomy, and appealing because of natural light.

Window film also reduces glare. When you’re arranging furniture, you often have to consider glare because it might ruin the view to your TV, computer screens, etc. Window film eliminates this problem without losing natural light. No glare, but all the benefits of sunshine. Now you can place your furniture and items wherever works best.

Make the Perfect Impression and Enjoy the Benefits

If you’re taking advantage of today’s hot real-estate market, window film is wonderful for selling or buying! Buyers will notice homes that feel bright, open and airy. If all your windows are covered in drapes or blocked off with thick curtains, you could lose aesthetic appeal. Or, if you’re entertaining and want to make your space feel larger and lightened, window film is the perfect resolution to maximize small spaces and opening your windows views and your space. Besides looking great, window film also offers other benefits, such as:

  • Reduce your energy costs
  • Reduce sun damage to the interior of your home
  • Add privacy
  • Reduce glare

Keep Harmful UV Rays Out and Let the Sunshine IN!

Ultraviolet rays, also known as UV rays, are the dangerous rays from the sun that can cause skin cancer. Limiting your exposure to the sun and wearing sunscreen is recommended for human protection. But skin is not the only thing UV rays can damage.

Let’s talk about how to keep harmful UV rays out and let the sunshine in!

They are also responsible for damaging many items in your home. Drapes, carpets, upholstered furniture, walls, artwork, even hardwood floors can be faded and dried out from these harmful rays. Anything in their path is at risk. The Tintmaster Team has put together a list of options for homeowners to consider when looking to protect your home or business, including window film.

HOW CAN YOU PROTECT YOUR HOME AND FURNISHINGS FROM UV RAYS?

There are several ways to protect your home from these damaging rays. Some are more expensive than others, but read on and compare so you know your options

REPLACEMENT WINDOWS

Replacement windows with UV resistant glass can keep the rays out, but this is not an affordable option for most homeowners as they are a large investment. However, if you are considering replacement or double-pane windows, don’t underestimate the importance of UV resistant glass.

CURTAINS & DRAPES

Curtains and drapes will certainly block the UV rays when they are closed; unfortunately, they also block the sunlight which some people enjoy, especially in sunrooms. Plus, don’t forget that over time, the fabric of these shades and drapes will suffer from sun damage and need to be replaced.

SHUTTERS & AWNINGS

Much like curtains shade the interior of your home, shutters and awnings serve the same purpose on the outside of your home. They also have the disadvantage of blocking much of the light while blocking the UV rays.

WINDOW FILM

Keep harmful UV rays out and let the sunshine in!

UV blocking window film will block the UV rays, while letting light in, and is a much more affordable option than replacement windows.

REDUCING COSTS AND ENERGY

If you’re wanting to make your home or business more energy efficient, window tinting is a much cheaper option to double-paned windows or entirely new windows. With our prestige line of films, you cut up to 55% of solar heat gain and let in up to 70% of the light, while double-paned windows can only block about 8-15% of heat.

When you’re using window tinting, you’re letting your air conditioner take a well-earned breather, and that’ll reflect in your utility bills over time, as well as potentially increasing the longevity of your air conditioner unit.

Block Harmful UV Rays that Cause Fading

Home and business owners alike love our window tinting because it will keep the harmful UV rays out by blocking the infrared rays of the sun. This keeps homes and offices cool and helps to reduce solar heat gain, which in turn, lowers energy bills. But the sun has other rays that, while they don’t cause solar heat gain, they can cause severe fading of interior carpets and fabrics.

The Pros at Tintmaster get questions about fading all the time. What causes fading? Why do some items fade faster than others? Which colors fade the worst? What can I do to prevent fading? We hope to answer those questions and give you a little insight here:

Q. WHY DOES ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT CAUSE COLOR TO FADE?

A. The technical term for fading is photodegradation. Many factors contribute to fading processes, including the chemical and physical structures of the object, the type of pigments or dyes present, the intensity and amount of light, and the humidity and temperature of the environment.

Q. Why do some items fade faster than others?

A. Fading is a chemical process … let’s break it down:

  • Different objects will fade at different rates depending on their chemical makeup. Dyes contain light absorbing color bodies called chromophores. We see colors based on these chemical bonds and the amount of light that is absorbed in a particular wavelength.
  • When light, particularly ultraviolet light, which has a very short wavelength, hits an object, the energy contained within interacts with the exposed surface. The new energy excites the outer molecules of the object causing chemical bonds, thus reducing the vibrancy of the color and the strength of the object over time.
  • When ultraviolet rays break down the chemical bonds, it causes a bleaching effect. Colors that reflect the light more will fade less. Colors that absorb more light will fade more. Color and molecular damage can never be repaired.

Q. WHICH COLORS FADE THE FASTEST?

A. Under most circumstances, red fades the fastest of all visible colors. Short-wavelength light such as blue or violet has greater energy than lower-wavelength light, and red has the longest wavelength of visible colors. Red objects reflect red light but absorb harmful, energy-rich, short-wavelength light and will fade faster.

Q. What can I do to prevent fading?

A. 3MTM SUN CONTROL WINDOW FILMS

Sun control window films block harmful UV rays by up to 99%! They are easy to install and last for years. While sun control window film by 3MTM will definitely solve your fading problems, there are a couple of other handy benefits it will provide as well:

  • Because window film blocks most of the UV rays, it also blocks most of the heat.
  • Window film can reduce energy costs by up to 30%.
  • Window film will even reduce the sun’s glare on your TV and computer screens.

Window film is the most cost-effective way to reduce the UV rays without sacrificing the sunlight that you enjoy.

Keep Harmful UV Rays OUT to protect against fading & sun damage

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause artwork, furniture, flooring and expensive window treatments to lose color and break down over time. But even more critical is the increased risk of premature skin aging and skin cancer caused by harmful UV rays entering through the windows of your home. Now, 3M™ Window Films give you an economical and easy way to protect your furnishings – and your family – from the damaging effects of the sun. Keep harmful UV rays out and continue to enjoy all the brilliance and beauty of natural sunlight.

SAVE MONEY: Window Tinting Benefits for Homeowners

Residential Window Tinting can Save You Money!

Window tinting benefits for homeowners can contribute to potential cost savings in various ways. Here are some ways in which window tinting benefits for homeowners can help save money:

  1. Energy Efficiency:
    • Window tinting can enhance the energy efficiency of a home by reducing the amount of heat that enters during hot weather and preventing heat loss during colder seasons. This can lead to lower energy bills as the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems operate more efficiently.
  2. Reduced Cooling Costs:
    • By blocking a significant portion of the sun’s heat, window tinting helps maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature. This can result in reduced reliance on air conditioning, leading to lower cooling costs, especially during the summer months.
  3. UV Radiation Protection:
    • Window tinting can block a significant portion of harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV rays can damage furniture, flooring, and other interior elements, causing them to fade and deteriorate over time. By reducing UV exposure, window tinting helps preserve the condition of interior furnishings, potentially saving money on replacement costs.
  4. Extended Lifespan of HVAC Systems:
    • The reduced workload on HVAC systems due to improved insulation and temperature control can contribute to a longer lifespan for these systems. This can lead to cost savings by delaying the need for HVAC repairs or replacements.
  5. Improved Insulation:
    • Window tinting can act as an additional layer of insulation, helping to keep the indoor temperature more stable. This insulation effect can reduce the need for heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, resulting in energy savings.
  6. Glare Reduction:
    • Window tinting can reduce glare from the sun and other external light sources. This not only enhances comfort but also can reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day, leading to lower electricity bills.
  7. Enhanced Privacy:
    • Tinted windows provide increased privacy by limiting the view from the outside. This can reduce the need for window coverings such as blinds or curtains, saving money on window treatments.
  8. Protection for Electronics:
    • UV rays and excessive heat can damage electronic devices and appliances. Window tinting helps protect these items by reducing their exposure to sunlight, potentially extending their lifespan and reducing replacement costs.
  9. Increased Property Value:
    • Energy-efficient features, including window tinting, can enhance the overall value of a home. This can be beneficial when selling the property, potentially providing a return on the initial investment.
  10. Environmental Impact:
    • Reduced energy consumption and a lower carbon footprint contribute to a more sustainable and eco-friendly living environment. While this may not result in immediate financial savings, it aligns with a broader trend toward responsible and energy-efficient homeownership.

It’s important to note that the window tinting benefits for homeowners and the degree of cost savings may vary depending on factors such as climate, the type of window tinting used, and the specific characteristics of the home. Consulting with the window tinting professionals at Tintmaster can provide tailored recommendations based on the unique needs of your property.

To put it bluntly; residential window tint saves money, and when making an investment, obviously the desired result is to profit from it in the future. You may find yourself asking, “How can home window tinting benefit me or save money in any way?”

One simple answer is this; by reducing the amount of sunlight that’s able to enter your home, the window tint protects both the furniture and interior of your home from incurring damage due to excess sunlight. If you have furnished a home in the past or are in the process of doing so, you’ll realize that furniture can be very pricy and is certainly not something you would like to replace before necessary. However, if left unprotected from the harsh rays of sun, this may very likely be the case!

Last but certainly not least, by having your windows tinted you are also taking a proactive step in better protecting your home from the risk of attracting unwanted attention. By obscuring the interior of you home from the outside, tinted windows allow you to keep your personal property hidden from public view. This not only provides your home with an extra layer of privacy, but also reduces the likelihood of a home invasion or robbery.

You can also choose an additional form of privacy by including a variety of shades, designs, patterns, and colors. For privacy concerns, you can even get frosted glass that admits light but obscures the interior.

  • Windows. As we mentioned above, window film is one of the best winterizing steps you can take, and they’re great for all weather conditions. In the summer, window film helps keep harmful UV rays out of the home, and in winter, it helps keep in the warmth.
  • Fans can help distribute heat. While fans are often associated with hot days, they can actually help distribute the warm air around your home. Simply reverse the direction of their spin cycles – make them run counter-clockwise in rotation.
  • Check your fireplace flue before your first fire of the season! Make sure you have proper ventilation and consider sweeping your chimney before the cold weather hits and you’re craving a warm fire.
  • Check over your doors to see if they are sealed. Does light come through or can you feel air through a doorway? Then you probably need to seal your doors. This will help keep cold air out, and warm air inside where you want it nice and cozy for the holiday season.
  • Pipes and pluming checks. You may need to turn off outdoor water accesses.
  • Check your detectors. Home fired and carbon monoxide accidents are at a higher percentage over the winter months, so check over your detectors to make sure you and your family is protected from harmful gas.

FAQ Window Film | We’re Answering Your Biggest Questions

Q. What is window film?

A. Window film is a thin, multi-layered polyester material that incorporates the many different layers to control different properties, including Ultra-Violet (UV) light, heat, glare, and privacy. Window film comes in a variety of performance levels and shades.

What are the benefits of window film?

A. The many benefits of window film include eye comfort, UV protection, aesthetics, and increased safety, privacy, and energy savings. Here are some additional Window Tinting Benefits for Large or Small Commercial Buildings.

Q. Does window film actually work?

A. Modern solar films can block as much as 55 percent of the outdoor heat. An insulating window film applied over a window can help the window retain up to 55 percent more heat in winter, potentially reducing your heating costs up to 30 percent. These films are less effective at reducing summer heat gain, though.

What do the different levels of film mean?

A. Film percentages stand for light transmission, or the amount of light that is allowed through the film. The lower the percentage, the darker the film.

Q. What is “One-Way Film”?

A. “One-Way Film” is based on lighting, not the film itself. The side that is the brightest is the side that you can see. During the day when it is bright outside, you can see outside. At night, if you have lights on inside and no lighting outside, then it reverses.

Q. Is the tint applied on the outside of the window?

A. No. In most cases, window film is installed on the inside of the glass. This allows for maximum durability. On vehicles, the window tint is hand-cut on the outside of the glass, then installed on the interior of the glass.

Q. Can window film be applied to any surface?

A. No. The adhesive is meant to adhere to glass only. Window film should only be applied to glass surfaces that have a smooth finish. Plastics, Plexiglas, or Lexan contain too much oil for the film to adhere properly for a long period of time.

Q. How does window film improve year-round comfort?

A. Window film creates a more comfortable environment through consistent climate control by eliminating “cold wall” and “hot wall” problems. Rooms stay more comfortable in the summer and winter, be reducing “hot spots”, no matter where the sun is shining.

Q. How does window film lower energy costs?

Q. In summer, window film reflects the hot sun, reducing heat gain and lowering air conditioning costs. In winter, window film retains heat — up to 15% — to reduce heating costs. This year-after-year reduction in energy costs can yield an impressive return on investment. Related Article: Window Tint Will Save Energy and Money

Q. Does blocking UV rays help prevent fading and deterioration?

A. Yes. The same sun that brightens a room’s interior can be detrimental to fabrics, furnishings, artwork, and rugs. Ultraviolet rays are the main cause of both fade and deterioration. Window films can screen out 99% of the damaging UV rays that can fade richly colored furniture, tapestries, and artwork. Heat and light also play a part in fading, but using window film to block nearly 100% of UV rays will increase the life of your personal property for years.

Q. What should I use to clean my windows after I’ve had them tinted?

A. After window film installation, wait a week before cleaning the inside of the window where the film was installed. After a week, use a window cleaner without ammonia and a soft cloth or rubber squeegee. We recommend foam cleaners because they do not streak, and are usually ammonia-free. Never scrape the film with any type of blade or clean your tinted windows with anything abrasive, as it will scratch the film.

Q. If my window film is damaged, can it be fixed?

A. Damaged window film cannot be repaired, but the damaged piece of film can be removed and the glass can be re-tinted.

Residential Window Tint Solutions: Why do I need window tint?

Tinting windows often gets associated with cars and other vehicles, but did you know that tinting your home windows will provide numerous benefits for the look, feel, and safety of your home?

Understand What You Need to Know About Residential Window Tinting

Residential Window Tint Solutions: Sunlight Protection with a View

We all love a bright, sunny day, but the heat and UV rays from the sun can damage our skin, our furniture, and make our homes too warm for comfort. Sunlight rays can also ruin electronics, digital items, and can even cause wood to rot from routine exposure.

The wonderful thing about window tinting is it significantly reduces the harmful UV rays, without blocking your view of the outside. You may think that adding window tinting could make your home dark and dreary, but that isn’t the case. Your view to the outside isn’t blocked at all.

Our residential window tinting solutions can provide answers to all these problems:

  • Add privacy
  • Reduce glare
  • Reduce sun damage and exposure
  • Reduce energy costs

Residential Window Tint Solutions: Stay Cool – Don’t Overheat

We’re in the beginning of summer, and temps are already climbing throughout the day. Save your home the stress of keeping cool with the help of window tinting. Our transparent, almost colorless spectrally-selective applied window film offers the best ratio of visible light transmission to heat rejection. These clear films don’t alter the appearance of glass, but are scratch resistant and reduce up to 55% of solar heat gain – keeping your house cooler and your bills lower over time.

Residential Window Tint Solutions: Extra Privacy

Our homes are our sanctuary, and we want to feel the ultimate sense of privacy when we’re at home. We offer two effective types of privacy films for your home. These are great in any areas you’d like extra privacy – such as bathrooms and closets.

Learn How Residential Window Tint Saves Money

Mirrored privacy films provide daytime privacy. They allow you to see outside, but stop others from seeing in during the daylight hours. At night, their mirrored surface is ineffective and outsiders can see inside if there is light from within. Privacy films also help block UV rays up to 99%, which protects your furniture and anything else inside your home.

Comfort & Productivity

Glares from the sun can be cumbersome and distracting to everyone. When you install commercial window tinting from Tintmaster, you reduce glare and make your employees much more comfortable in their working environment. When windows aren’t tinted, the air conditioning has to run more, making employees have to find cooler spots to work in, adjust blinds, and avoid glare. Window tinting also reduces distraction from a busy street, giving everyone a better sense of privacy and better security.

UV Damage Protection

As we mentioned above, the sun’s harmful rays can be frustrating. However, UV rays do more damage than you might think. Just as UV rays can harm our skin and give us a sunburn, when your windows are left unprotected, UV rays can begin to damage your interior. Furniture, rugs, flooring, etc., can begin to fade from prolonged UV exposure. Window tinting can protect your spaces from any harmful rays, and keep the interior cooler, longer.

Energy Costs

Since your window tinting will help absorb and keep out the sun’s UV rays, your air conditioner and heating units won’t have to work as hard to maintain a comfortable temperature. This makes a major reduction in energy costs and savings in the long run! In fact, window tinting can reduce costs up to 15%, and can reduce your heat gains by 70%.

Long-Lasting Protection

If you own a commercial building, you know the importance of privacy and security. Window tinting not only provides a new layer of privacy by blocking outside viewership, but it can also help keep glass in-tact during a break-in. Our commercial window tinting is covered by a 10-year warranty on labor and materials. We can offer this kind of assurance because our licensed and certified installers are experienced, and our products are trustworthy.
